sedation
For some patients sitting through a dental treatment appointment can be a challenge. This could be due to a patient’s young age, nervousness, anxiety, or special needs.
There are many options and levels of sedation. At Sawtooth Kids Pediatric Dentistry, our highly-trained staff knows all the tips and tricks to make a hard appointment easy! This includes distraction techniques, topical anesthetic, a relaxing environment, and even TVs on the ceiling.
We offer nitrous oxide (laughing/relaxing gas) for most of our younger patients. This allows the patient to stay awake and conversant but relax enough to complete the procedure.
Dr. Olsen has been trained in Oral Conscious Sedation, which allows your child to drink some relaxing medicine along with the nitrous oxide. This creates an opportunity for some quick treatment that might prevent a trip to the surgery center.
For some patients general anesthesia (GA) is recommended to complete treatment. Due to a child’s young age, extent of treatment required, or dental anxiety, GA, either at a surgical center or in office, can be a preferred setting for dental treatment.
